Dear God, do you exist, I know not for sure,
The notion that you do, I think is a lure,
For simple-minded people who do ignore
All sense and reason, and choose to follow lore.
You might be like Santa Clause, or Boogey Monster and more,
Stories for children, a reason they should behave well for,
We tell them, you’re watching, judging them naughty or nice,
Instilling fear in an attempt to banish all vice.
They grow up, and then we tell them the truth,
That daddy was Santa all this time,
They get hurt, so their hurt we soothe,
And put them to bed, with a kiss and a rhyme.
